I just picked up the new console and I'm really interested in maximizing the use of the buddy slots. I've read a few conflicting reviews, and I'm not sure if they are meant for controllers, external drives, or something else entirely. Specifically, if I use two controllers in the slots, does it affect the wireless range or the overall performance? I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up a multiplayer station without compromising stability. Any advice from people who have actually used them in a group setting would be greatly appreciated.

They are definitely for controllers, man. Don't worry about external drives in those slots.

I found that using three controllers max keeps the wireless handshake clean. Going over that number really started causing noticeable input lag, especially during fast-paced shooters.

Short answer: It's fine. Just test it first. I'd say you won't notice a difference unless you are running a massive group of people.

Long answer: I spent an entire afternoon testing this. I initially thought the slots might interfere with the console's internal antenna, but it seems they are designed to handle multiple connections without major degradation. However, I did notice a slight increase in heat output from the console itself when all slots were filled, so maybe give it a break if you are playing for extended periods. Also, make sure your console is placed on a stable, non-metallic surface for optimal signal transmission. It's less about the slots and more about the overall environmental setup.

Are you sure about the wireless range? My setup with four controllers was perfect.

The slots are fine. Just use good batteries.

Reply to the previous post: I think the range is fine, but you absolutely need to use the dedicated charging docks if you plan on playing for more than an hour. It keeps the controllers optimized and minimizes signal drops. Also, try pairing them directly through the console's settings menu rather than just plugging them in.

Just buy more controllers.

I had the opposite experience. With five controllers plugged in, the console seemed to struggle, and we kept getting random disconnects. I recommend limiting it to four, maybe three if you are playing competitive titles.

Check the manual for specific hardware limitations. It should detail the maximum capacity and any associated performance warnings.

I recommend a mix of wired and wireless if you are serious about stability. Use the slots for the wireless units, but keep one or two wired controllers plugged into the available ports on the back panel. It's a great hybrid solution.

The slots are purely for convenience, not performance boosting. Don't overthink it.

If you are using them for group play, make sure everyone is wearing comfortable shoes. It's a completely unrelated tip, but it helps the overall experience.
