My friends and I are planning a camping trip and we've heard great things about the spot called LG's by the creek. We're trying to figure out the best approach because the directions online are really vague. Specifically, is there a parking lot we should aim for, or is it better to park further away and hike in? We're also wondering about the best time to go to avoid crowds and what kind of permits we might need for overnight camping there. Any local knowledge or tips on navigating that area would be hugely appreciated!

Definitely hike in. The main road parking is super sketchy and often full.

We went last fall. Park at the old logging trail entrance, not the main lot. It's a 20-minute walk, but much easier than trying to drive through the narrow dirt roads.

Check the state park website for permits. You absolutely need one for overnight camping. Don't risk it.

Go early. Like, sunrise early. Midday is packed with day-hikers.

I disagree about the logging trail. It's muddy this time of year, and the detour is steep. Try parking closer to the old picnic area and walking from there. It's a bit of a scramble but doable.

The best time is late spring or early fall. Avoid summer weekends at all costs.

Parking is a nightmare. Seriously, park at the trailhead 3 miles up and take the marked path. It saves you the stress of finding a spot near the creek itself.

Did you check the local county ordinances? Sometimes they have specific camping zones that are different from the state park rules.

I think the best approach is to park at the designated overflow lot near the main access road. From there, you can walk 15 minutes along the service path. It's flat and easy for gear hauling.

Seriously, don't bring a car. Just take the bus line 42 until the stop before the woods. It's much more relaxing.

Are you talking about the LG's near the river or the one further up by the bend? The access is totally different for both.

If you're going for overnight, you need a backcountry permit. And remember to pack out everything. Leave no trace.

I recommend calling the park ranger office a week before your trip. They will have the most current information regarding road closures or required permits.

The picnic area parking is fine if you walk down the creek bank. It's a beautiful, easy stroll and you won't feel like you're fighting for space.

To respond to the previous comment: I found that the service path was actually quite overgrown and difficult to navigate, especially with a full pack. I stuck to the main trail entrance.

We found a small, unmarked gravel lot about half a mile back from the main entrance. It's perfect for a quick drop-off and a short hike in.

Make sure your group has proper bear canisters. The area is known for black bears, and proper storage is mandatory for camping.

The best time is definitely early fall, maybe October. The crowds thin out, and the foliage is amazing. Just be prepared for cooler nights!
