I'm planning a trip to Excalibur City next month and I've been looking at the official website, but the information on the historical walking tours is a little vague. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out if the 'King's Path' tour covers the entire old market district, or if I need to book a separate ticket for that area. Also, I'm wondering about the best time of day to visit the main plaza to avoid the biggest crowds and get the best photos. Any tips on local transport or must-see spots that aren't on the main tourist map would be hugely appreciated!

I spent a day doing the King's Path and realized it only covers the main thoroughfares. To get into the deeper parts of the old market district, you absolutely need to purchase the 'Merchant's Passage' add-on ticket. It's separate, but totally worth it for the artisan stalls.

For the main plaza, try going right at sunrise. The light is incredible for photos, and the main tourist groups haven't arrived yet. It's much quieter.

Local transport is best handled by the tram system. It circles the perimeter nicely and gets you close to everything without the hassle of parking downtown. Buy a day pass!

If you want a non-touristy experience, skip the central square and head towards the Whisperwind Gardens area. It's a little walk out of the main circuit, but the architecture there is stunning and rarely photographed. I spent an entire afternoon just wandering and reading.

Check out the riverside market stalls. They are always vibrant.

You are right to ask about the market. I found that the King's Path only touches the edges. You really need the Merchant's Passage ticket to explore the actual market stalls and history. Don't rely on the general tour.

My recommendation is to book a combination ticket that includes the King's Path and the Merchant's Passage. This way, you cover the major historical routes without having to worry about buying multiple separate tickets. I also suggest doing a quick guided food tour; it's a fun way to learn about the local culture and taste some amazing pastries. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, because you will be doing a lot of walking, and the cobblestones are uneven in places. Also, keep an eye out for the hidden fountain near the old clock tower; it's a beautiful photo spot that most people miss.

Seriously, buy the tram pass.

I disagree about sunrise. While the light is nice, the plaza is actually most beautiful right around 3:00 PM. The late afternoon sun hits the facades perfectly, and the crowds are thinner than at peak lunch time. Try that window!

The old market district is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets that predate the current city layout. It's less about a single 'tour route' and more about getting lost. I recommend wandering off the main paths and paying attention to the small, unmarked plaques on the walls; they tell stories about the original guilds and trades that once operated there. It gives a much deeper sense of the city's history than any guided walk can.

If you book the combined ticket, make sure you allocate at least three hours for the market district. It is huge, and you will want time to just sit down and soak in the atmosphere, not just rush through it. Also, check the tram schedule online beforehand; sometimes the afternoon routes get adjusted, which can throw off your whole itinerary.
