I'm looking into getting into some of the local gaming scene, specifically anything related to the EmbersLasVegas group. I saw some mentions online about their recent tournaments, but I'm not sure what kind of games they focus on or what the entry requirements are. Are they more focused on specific eSports titles, or is it a mix of board games and digital platforms? I'd really appreciate any advice on whether it's worth dedicating time to, and if there are any beginner-friendly tips I should know before signing up for anything.

They focus heavily on card games.

I went last month. It was a mixed bag, honestly. They had a big Valorant tournament Saturday, but the afternoon was dedicated to some really deep board games like Gloomhaven. It's not just one thing. You need to check their schedule online to see what's happening that day.

Don't worry about the entry requirements. Just show up. They are super welcoming to beginners. Ask around, and people will guide you.

It's definitely worth the time, but manage your expectations. It's more of a community gathering than a hyper-competitive eSports circuit. Go for the vibe first.

Are you talking about the main venue or the smaller pop-up events? The pop-ups are way more casual and perfect for beginners. Check their Instagram for those details.

I heard they are moving the location next quarter. Keep an eye on their official site for updates.

Replying to the board game comment: I found the board game section intimidating at first. I spent most of my time just watching people play and learning the rules from the organizers. It's okay to just observe initially.

I agree with the 'mixed bag' assessment. I think the best way to approach it is to pick one thing you genuinely enjoy, whether it's Hearthstone or Settlers of Carcassonne, and focus only on that for your first visit.

If you are into competitive gaming, stick to the eSports titles they advertise. They usually have sign-ups a week in advance for those. Board games are more drop-in style.

I think the biggest misconception is that it's all high-stakes tournaments. Many people just go to socialize and play casual rounds. It's really a community hub, not just a competition venue.

Has anyone played the recent D&D one-shot they hosted? Was it fun?

It's a mix! They have dedicated eSports days, but they also have huge areas for TTRPGs and board games. It really depends on which day of the week you go. Weekends are the biggest mix.

The entry requirements for the big tournaments are usually just paying the fee and showing up on time. For board games, sometimes you just need to know the game name and be polite!

I found the atmosphere fantastic. I was nervous about the eSports side, but the community was so supportive. They had a dedicated 'beginner corner' which was a lifesaver. I highly recommend it.

Totally worth it. Just bring comfortable shoes and maybe a snack or two. It can be a long day.

To follow up on the 'beginner corner' comment: Yes, that was amazing. They had people running stations for things like Magic: The Gathering and taught us the basics in under 30 minutes. It made me feel comfortable enough to join a small game afterward.

Check their Discord server. That's where all the most up-to-date info on specific game focuses and sign-ups for both digital and physical games is posted. Don't rely only on social media feeds.
