I'm looking at upgrading my car mount, and I keep seeing these CD slot phone holders advertised. My car is older and the CD slot is the only convenient spot for a mount, but I'm skeptical. I've read mixed reviews online; some say they are super stable, while others complain they block the slot or fall out easily. Has anyone used one of these in the last year or two? I'm worried about the longevity and if they really improve navigation visibility without being a safety hazard. Any real-world feedback would be greatly appreciated before I buy one.

The one I bought last year was super stable, maybe the most stable mount I've ever used. I only had to worry about the initial installation being a bit tight, but once it was set, it stayed put. I recommend checking reviews that mention specific car models, not just general usage.

I found that the key was the material. Some are cheap plastic and feel brittle. I invested in a name-brand one with a metal base, and it has held up surprisingly well through heavy use, even through some rough roads. Also, remember to clean the slot surface thoroughly before mounting anything, or it won't grip properly.
