I'm planning a trip to Reno next month and we are staying near the Atlantis resort area. We are a group of four and we are really interested in seeing some of the local attractions that aren't just within the resort complex. Could someone give me some advice on the best transportation options? Should we rent a car for the whole stay, or are there better public transit routes to get to places like the riverwalk or nearby hiking trails? Also, if we plan to eat out, are there any specific parking recommendations for visitors? Any tips on local hidden gems would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely rent a car. Public transit is very limited outside the immediate strip.

We found parking near the riverwalk was tricky. I recommend using the paid garage at the main downtown lot. It's expensive but convenient.

Seriously, skip the car rental. Park and ride options are surprisingly good for getting to the main downtown attractions. Just check the schedule online first.

If you are only going to the hiking trails, a car is necessary. The nearest trailhead is too far for a bus route.

I agree with the car rental advice. However, for parking, try looking for street parking a few blocks away and walking. It's cheaper and less stressful than the dedicated lots.

Have you checked out the North end of the town? It has some amazing local breweries and is much more authentic than the tourist traps near the resort.

The bus service (Route 1) runs frequently enough for most needs. It connects the resort area to the main downtown core reliably. It's a budget-friendly option for a day trip.

Oh really? I thought the riverwalk was inaccessible without a vehicle. Can you elaborate on how the bus gets you close enough to walk the whole way?

For a group of four, ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft are actually a great middle ground. You don't have to worry about parking, and it's easier than navigating the bus system.

I found a great hidden gem: the small park near the old train tracks. It's quiet, dog-friendly, and perfect for a relaxing afternoon away from the casino noise.

I disagree about the bus. It takes too long to get to the hiking spots. You really need the flexibility of a rental car to see the surrounding natural beauty.

If you are staying near the Atlantis, walk to the local coffee shops first. They are much more charming than anything right on the main drag.

Parking tips: Always check the signs. Many lots charge different rates depending on the time of day. It's worth comparing a couple of options nearby.

The local farmers market on Saturday mornings is a must-visit. It's a great way to experience the local culture and grab some unique snacks. You'll need a car for the easiest access.
