I'm planning a trip to Vegas next fall and Grand MGM is at the top of my list. I'm trying to figure out the best booking strategy-should I use a package deal through Expedia, or is it better to book directly on their website? I'm particularly interested in knowing if booking a suite gives better value than booking a standard room and paying for upgrades on site. Also, does staying there give any perks for dining at the other MGM properties? Any advice from people who have stayed recently would be greatly appreciated!

I highly recommend booking direct. You usually get better cancellation policies and sometimes they offer bonus points that Expedia doesn't match.

Packages are fine if you need flights and car rental bundled. Otherwise, just booking the room directly is usually safer for flexibility.

Regarding suites versus standard rooms: it depends on your priorities. If you need space for a group or want a dedicated living area, the suite is worth the upfront cost. But if you just want a good night's sleep and plan to leave the room, a standard room is perfectly fine and saves a ton of cash.

Check the MGM website's 'Deals' section. Sometimes they run flash sales that beat the package rates.

Definitely. Being an MGM guest gives you priority access and sometimes special discounts at the restaurants within the larger complex. Just ask the concierge upon check-in to confirm current benefits.

I found that booking a standard room and then paying for a partial upgrade was actually better value for me. I got the extra space I wanted without committing to the full suite price.

How long was your trip? Sometimes the booking strategy changes based on the length of stay. A week is different from a single night.

I disagree about the upgrades. I booked a suite and it was fantastic. The space alone made the trip feel much more luxurious and less rushed. It's worth the splurge if you're celebrating something.

I'd stick to direct booking. I noticed a huge difference in the cancellation terms when I used Expedia. It was much stricter.

The dining perks are minimal unless you are a high-tier loyalty member. Don't count on major discounts just for staying at the hotel.

I recommend looking into the MGM Rewards program before you book. The points accumulation is the best perk, far more than any dining discount.

Short answer: Book direct. It gives you the most control over your dates and payment plans.

Has anyone stayed there during a major convention? I worry about availability and price gouging during those times.

I found the best deal was booking a non-refundable rate directly on their site, but only if you are 100% sure of your dates. It saves you about 20% compared to packages.

To reply to the previous user: I had a similar experience, and I found the suite was definitely worth it. The separate sitting area was perfect for having drinks and snacks without having to leave the room.

Don't forget to check out local Vegas deals for dining. Sometimes a coupon from a local paper is better than any hotel perk.

For the best value, compare the total cost (room + estimated meals/activities) across all three booking methods: Expedia, Direct, and Package. Don't just look at the room rate.
