I've started using a local second chance marketplace for some household goods, and it's been great for decluttering. However, I'm planning to sell a few high-value items, like some specialized tools and a vintage camera lens, and I'm worried about getting ripped off or mispriced. Does anyone have experience with listing expensive items? Should I include detailed condition reports, or is that overkill? Also, are there specific photography tips I should follow to make my listings look professional and trustworthy? Any advice on pricing strategies would be hugely appreciated.

Detailed condition reports are non-negotiable for high-value goods. Take pictures of every scratch, every wear mark. Transparency builds trust and prevents disputes later.

For pricing, research comparable sales. Don't just look at asking prices; find out what similar items actually sold for recently. Use eBay sold listings as a guide.

Photography is key. Use natural daylight, shoot against a neutral background (like a plain white sheet), and take multiple angles. For electronics, show the serial number clearly. Good photos make the item seem more valuable and trustworthy.

Short and sweet: Test the item. Video proof is best.

I found that pricing too high is worse than pricing too low. It just scares away buyers. Start slightly below market value and be prepared to negotiate. Also, mention if the item is 'as-is' in the description.

I agree with the condition report advice. I once sold a vintage camera lens and the buyer complained about a minor scratch I had pointed out. It was a nightmare. Be overly detailed, even if it feels like overkill.

Video walkthroughs are amazing. Especially for tools. Show them turning, opening, and closing. It proves they still function properly and helps the buyer visualize the item in their home.

Does anyone know if listing the item with a 'Best Offer' option is better than setting a firm price? I'm torn between the two approaches for my specialized tools.

To reply to the video suggestion: Yes, absolutely! A 30-second video showing the lens focusing and the tool operating is worth its weight in gold. It eliminates buyer doubt instantly.

Be careful about the platform's rules. Some local marketplaces prohibit the sale of certain types of high-value electronics. Check their terms of service before listing the camera lens, just to be safe.
