I've been reading a lot about the difference between pure RNG slots and games that incorporate player skill, and I'm genuinely confused. Some newer titles claim to have 'skill slots' or mechanics that reward strategic play, but most of what I see still feels like a pure coin-flip system. Does the concept of 'skill' really apply when the core mechanism is supposed to be random? I'm looking for advice from people who have actually tested these games-are there specific patterns or timing elements I should be paying attention to, or is it just marketing hype? Any real-world examples of skill influencing the payout would be greatly appreciated.

I disagree with the pure hype take. I've noticed that when I play certain progressive slots, timing my bets during specific cycles seems to correlate with bigger payouts. It's not guaranteed, but it feels like there's a rhythm to it that experienced players pick up on. Maybe it's pattern recognition, which is a skill.

The 'skill' mechanics are usually just advanced paytable management. You aren't predicting the reels; you are choosing the optimal path through the bonus structure to maximize your potential return within the given rules. It's strategic resource allocation, not predicting randomness.

To follow up on the mini-game point: Yes, the mini-games are the key. They force you to make choices (e.g., which symbol to select, which path to take) which are genuinely skill-based and directly impact the payout multiplier. The main slot spin is the setup, but the bonus round is the test.
