I'm looking to get into some space exploration-themed board games and I keep hearing about 'star games' being popular. I live near Novoline and I'm wondering if there's a local hobby shop or maybe an online group that recommends specific places to buy them. I've already checked the big box stores, but they didn't have much variety. If anyone has played a great star game recently, or knows a good local source, please let me know! I'm willing to travel a bit for a good selection.

Check out 'The Cosmic Corner' in downtown. They usually have a great selection of sci-fi board games.

I actually found a fantastic local group called 'Galaxy Gamers' that meets every second Saturday at the community center. They have a massive library and are super helpful for recommendations. You should definitely check out their schedule!

Just buy them online. Amazon is fine for starters.

The Cosmic Corner is great, but they tend to focus more on fantasy. For pure space games, I'd recommend looking at specialized distributors that ship to the area. Have you looked at board game specific retailers outside of Novoline?

I played Stellaris: Board Game last month. It was amazing. Highly recommend it if you like deep strategy.

Hey, I was just there last week. The Cosmic Corner is okay, but their selection is limited to what they ordered in bulk. For variety, you might have better luck going to the larger hobby store in the next town over, maybe 20 minutes drive. They carry more niche titles.

Seriously, check out BoardGameGeek forums. People there are goldmines of knowledge for specific titles and where to buy them.

I'm a total newbie myself, so I'm looking for something relatively light to start. Do you know if the Galaxy Gamers group has any recommendations for a 'gateway' space game? Something not too overwhelming.

My friend who lives near Novoline suggested a local Facebook group. Search for 'Novoline Board Game Enthusiasts.' People post buy/sell/trade stuff and often know about local meetups.

If you are into deep space simulation, you need to look into games like Eclipse or Twilight Imperium. They are huge commitments, but incredible. Be prepared for a long night!

I agree with the suggestion about the larger store nearby. Sometimes local shops get stuck in a rut with their inventory. It's worth the gas money for a much better selection.

Have you considered Kickstarter? Many independent game designers launch their star games there first. It's a great way to find unique, unreleased titles before they hit local shelves.

The Cosmic Corner is fine for a quick browse, but don't expect much variety. They are more focused on party games than deep space strategy. Save your time and check the specialized store outside of town.

I'd say the best bet is the local meet-up group. Talking to people who actually play the games is way better than just looking at shelves. Good luck!

For a good starter game, try 'Forbidden Planet.' It's cooperative, space-themed, and easy to learn, but still challenging enough to feel like a real adventure. It's a solid choice!
