My family and I are planning a weekend trip to the Cashe Creek area and we're really excited about getting out into nature. We've heard great things about the scenery, but we aren't sure which trails are best for a mix of ages. We have kids who are about 8 and 12, so we need something manageable but still scenic enough for adults. Are there any trails that are relatively flat, or perhaps a mix of difficulty levels? Any local tips on parking or if we need to bring special gear would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You should check out the Cashe Creek Loop Trail. It's generally flat and very kid-friendly. We did it last summer and the views were amazing. Bring plenty of water!

The Riverwalk Trail is perfect for your age group. It follows the creek and is mostly paved, so it's super manageable. We parked at the main lot, and it was easy to find. Don't forget snacks!

Short and sweet. Try the Upper Meadow Path.

I think the difficulty level really depends on how far you go. If you just do the first mile, it's great for the kids. If you push past the bridge, it gets steep fast. Maybe stick to the initial section and let the kids enjoy the picnic areas nearby. We found that having a defined endpoint was key to keeping everyone happy. Also, parking can be tricky on weekends, so get there early!

Is the Riverwalk really flat? My concern is that it might be too boring for a 12-year-old. We need some elevation change for a good challenge.

Totally agree with the Riverwalk comment. It's beautiful, but maybe the kids will get bored. Have you considered the Whispering Pines Trail? It has some gentle inclines and is definitely more engaging. It's a little further drive, but worth it for the variety.

We went last month. It was moderate. Good shoes are a must.

The Upper Meadow Path is lovely, but I heard that the dirt path can be muddy after rain. Check the local weather forecast before you commit. Also, bring bug spray, seriously, the mosquitoes near the creek are intense in the late afternoon.

How about bringing a portable picnic blanket? It makes the whole experience feel more like a day out than a hike, which is great for keeping the younger ones motivated. Just remember to pack out all your trash!

The Whispering Pines Trail is definitely the best bet. It's a bit longer, but the mix of forest and open views keeps everyone interested. We recommend doing the section near the old quarry overlook; the views are incredible and the path is well-maintained.

Do you think the difficulty is manageable for an 8-year-old who isn't a seasoned hiker?

Yes, the initial part of the Loop Trail is very gentle, perfect for an 8-year-old. Just keep an eye on them near the steeper sections, though. Overall, it's a solid choice for a mixed-age family.
