I'm planning a trip to Zia Park next weekend and I'm trying to figure out the logistics. I've heard mixed reviews about parking, and I'm worried about finding a spot, especially if I'm bringing a car. Has anyone recently visited and could share some tips on the best way to get there? Specifically, I'm looking for advice on whether it's better to park near the main entrance or if there are any less obvious access points that are easier to navigate. Any details about local parking restrictions or recommended walking routes would be greatly appreciated.

I went last month. The main parking lot near the entrance is huge, but it fills up fast, especially on weekends. Arrive early to guarantee a spot.

Honestly, walking in from the main lot is fine, but if you are worried about crowds, try parking a little further down the access road and walking the rest of the way. It saves you circling the main lot.

If you are driving from the Hobbs side, taking the secondary road that parallels the main highway can sometimes offer better parking options, though it's a bit more of a detour. Just use GPS and look for 'secondary access road' signs.

Short answer: Park at the main lot. It's the easiest way. Don't bother looking for obscure spots; you'll just waste gas and time circling.

I disagree with the main lot advice. There's a small, paid lot just past the visitor center that locals use. It's much less crowded and costs only a few dollars. Ask a park employee for directions to that specific lot.

Has anyone found a reliable shuttle service? Driving into the area feels complicated.

The best access point is definitely arriving right at opening time. Seriously, if you get there before 9 AM, you will have ample parking and a peaceful visit. Otherwise, expect a bit of a struggle.

Replying to the paid lot comment: Yes, that's exactly right. I used that lot last year and it was a lifesaver. It also makes the walk feel less congested. Highly recommend it!

I found that if you are staying in Hobbs, parking at the local municipal lot and taking a taxi or ride share to the park entrance was actually less stressful than dealing with the park's own parking chaos.

Just stick to the main entrance parking. It's designed for maximum capacity. Don't worry too much about finding a 'secret' spot; just plan to arrive early.

Check the local county website before you go. Sometimes they update parking restrictions due to seasonal events or construction. It's always smart to verify the current situation.

I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Even if you park easily, the walk from the car to the monument and back can involve uneven terrain, so plan for some walking.

If you are bringing a large RV, definitely call the park office ahead of time. They need to know your vehicle size to direct you to the appropriate parking area, as some sections are too narrow.
