Anyone know if there are any 'casino bodega' type spots in the city?

I'm trying to find a place that has a little bit of everything, you know? Like a corner store, but with some sort of entertainment or maybe even a small slot machine area. I heard the term 'casino bodega' used by a friend, and I'm genuinely curious if that's a real concept or just a local slang term. It would be perfect for a late-night hangout when you don't want to go all the way downtown to a big casino. Has anyone actually visited one of these hybrid spots and can tell me what they are like?

I think it's mostly a local slang term, honestly. I haven't seen anything like it, but maybe a convenience store with a mini-arcade section?

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. My friend took me to a place downtown that was basically a liquor store with a few slot machines tucked in the back. It was super low-key and perfect for a late night.

Short answer: probably not. But check out the 'GameStop Bodega' concept in the outer boroughs. They sometimes have a small corner dedicated to retro games and sometimes even a few poker tables.

Seriously, I've never found one. The closest I've gotten was a 7-Eleven that had a massive selection of snacks and a corner where they kept a few old pinball machines. It wasn't a casino, but it was close to the vibe you're describing.

Haha, I think you're describing a concept that hasn't really taken off commercially. Maybe a specialized 'entertainment corner' in a larger bodega, but nothing dedicated to slots and snacks simultaneously.

Reply to user 2: Oh really? What was it like? Was it legit gambling, or just novelty machines? I'm curious about the legality of those setups.

I heard about these in Philly. They call them 'corner hubs.' They are more focused on local community gathering, maybe a small bar area and some board games, but the slot machine part is usually missing.

It's definitely a niche thing. If you're looking for slots, you probably need to go to a licensed establishment, even a small one. The bodega setup usually crosses legal lines.

Reply to user 1: Maybe it's not a casino bodega, but a 'gaming lounge' that also sells snacks. Those are more common now. They are usually separate from the actual corner store.

I'd love to see one. It sounds like the perfect place to kill a few hours without the overwhelming atmosphere of a big casino. Keep an eye out for local pop-ups!

I think the key is the 'vibe.' You want a place that feels casual, like a neighborhood spot, but with an element of chance. Try looking near university areas; they sometimes have these quirky hybrid spots.

Reply to user 3: I disagree. I think the 'GameStop Bodega' idea is actually pretty solid. If they could incorporate some simple, non-gambling interactive elements, it would be amazing for a late night.

It's all about location, I think. Some parts of the city are more tolerant of these kinds of hybrid businesses than others. Ask around in the older, more established neighborhoods.

I'd recommend checking out local community centers or recreation halls. Sometimes they host 'game nights' that feel very much like what you're describing, without the legality issues of gambling.

Totally get the concept. It's the anti-casino experience. A place you can grab a soda, play a few rounds, and leave feeling like you had a fun, local night out.
